Finally, we made it to the finish line: Bloomberg published our extensive story on BMW’s strategy with its upcoming Neue Klasse line of EVs just yesterday – with all the bells and whistles that come with it: In addition to the feature-length article published on the Bloomberg Terminal, Bloomberg Television aired an interview with CEO Oliver Zipse – and one of my colleagues served as an expert in Bloomberg TV’s Tech Talk.
It was a culmination of a story that had been long in the making: My colleagues and I started to prepare for that piece months ago. I lined up some factory visits during BMW events and talked to several insiders over the course of months. I also participated in a June test drive of a very advanced prototype of the first Neue Klasse model, the iX3. And for good measure, I also test-drove its direct predecessor iX briefly.
But the highlight for our in-depth article was an exclusive interview with BMW CEO Oliver Zipse – perfectly organized by a very understanding press office. Zipse sat down for a longer period of time with Bloomberg’s top European automotive editors to talk future business – and how BMW wants to the EV benchmark for the car industry.

Thanks to a lot of great editors, the piece turned into a gripping read, I think – at a time where trade tensions are rising, the shift to EV stutters almost everywhere and Tesla Motors seems to be weaker than ever, especially in Europe.
By the way: Bloomberg TV host Tom Mackenzie did a great job at eliciting some interesting news from Zipse:
